The program aims to develop global awareness and equip students to address challenges facing marginalized communities worldwide.

Women's & Ethnic Studies

Type: Online Bachelor of Arts (BA)

The Department of Women's & Ethnic Studies (WEST) at UCCS offers a Bachelor of Arts degree in WEST that can be completed completely online. In addition, students who reside in the Colorado Springs area have the option to take a combination of online and in-person courses, including evening courses, to complete the degree.

All required WEST courses are offered online at least once every other year, with most being offered every semester, including summer. Online students can also take advantage of the travel courses (which have no in-person component on campus) for the Summit Experience.

Women's & Ethnic Studies

Type: Bachelor of Innovation (BI)

The Women's & Ethnic Studies (WEST) Bachelor of Innovation program blends critical thinking from a WEST degree with entrepreneurship and business skills.

Students learn to analyze how different hierarchies intersect, including race, gender, and disability and creatively address social issues. The program equips students with a unique skill set to tackle complex problems with innovative solutions.

The WEST minor, like the major, emphasizes intersectionality, cultural responsiveness, critical thinking, creativity, community engagement, and global awareness.

Students take the core course Introduction to Social Justice Studies plus 15 credits of WEST electives to explore their interests.
